Exciting NEWS!! And giveaway update!

Evening Zombies...

Before I hit the hay I wanted to let you all in on something freaking awesome. In the mail today was a full size Emptiness and Lies (my custom shade) from Hi-Fi Cosmetics! And, it was given to me for...THE ZOMBIE GIVEAWAY! So, I'll be adding that to the list of goodies the grand prize winner will receive. I'm stoked. :)

This is what it looks like:

(Main lid color: Navy blue with purple undertones and tons of pink sparklies!)

Also, because of the interest in the Dark Faerie series, I've decided to do more looks/posts (from fellow bloggers) during the weeks to come. And I may just make this a weekly "thing" on the blog..and not a series. :)

So, if you haven't already, make sure you enter my giveaway and tell your friends I want their braaaaaains. In exchange they get goodies. haha

If you're interested in contributing a post for my "Dark Faerie" theme, please email me at

Totally unrelated to makeup!

I am testing out blogging via my Blackberry. The past few days have produced amazing NM skies and I wanted to share.

Moi Minerals Review and !SWATCHES!

 Hello my lovely Zombie lovers!

Ok....I am really excited about tonight's post, because well, when I first received my package from this company, my heart sank. All the colors looked like something I already owned (in their clam shells.) So I was bummed that I might have to write my first "meh, they were OK" post. Until I swatched the bitches! Ooooo!

"Dark Faerie" Series Week 1. Phyrra!

Happy Monday Zombies!

I had an awesome weekend. Got myself a new Blackberry Curve, so that I can officially become addicted to my phone- as if I wasn't already. We also had our nephew over for a sleep over and he had so much fun. We haven't seen the kid in 2 years. He's so sweet and he and Dade (my oldest son) had an awesome time.

As some of you know, I'm running a "Dark Faerie" series in the upcoming months. The intention is to feature my fellow bloggers- be it makeup, nails, cooking, or whatever! and have them do a little som'thin som'thin for my followers.

To kick off the series, I decided, who better to share a little faerie dust than the one and only Phyrra. The girl is stunning and reminds me of a Faerie- so it was just sort of meant to be. *evil grin*

Without furthur ado:

My name is Phyrra and I blog over at I was excited when Wendi asked me to debut her dark faerie theme, as I love the sidhe and dark fey. Recently I read Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely series, which is what influenced this look a bit. I did a fey of the Summer Court for my look, using mostly Aromaleigh products.

Aromaleigh Lost in Faerie Collection *SWATCHES*

Evening Zombies!

I received my samples from Aromaleigh earlier this week. I didn't realize there would be so many to swatch, so it took me a little while to get this posted.

I've only really had one experience with Aromaleigh eyeshadow (well 2) and it was with a couple of the ROCKS! eyeshadow. Let's just say, I wasn't totally sold. But this is before they were reformulated, so I won't base much on that.  I received "Victoria's Revenge" samples from a recent giveaway from Phyrra and was UBER stoked about those eyeshadow.

Anyway, below are the swatches of the newest collection "Lost in Faerie." To be honest I don't know when it's going to be released.  But I do know this..I will be purchasing full size of a few of these.

I didn't swatch in any particular order but each is swatched over Fyrianne Pixie Epoxy. Hand "2" is my favorite. I don't think there is a color on there that didn't catch my attention for one reason or another. I will note that most of these shadows are a SUPER sparkle fest (mainly silver sparkles). Some of them are more complex than others and hard to photograph.

My favorites from this collection are:

Emeranta: purple with blue undertones and lotz a sparkle
Elysia: Baby blue wutg a hint of pink and lotz a sparkle
Meliora: Blue with blue and pink sparkle (NOM NOM NOM)
Naida: Silver with a pink undertone and lotz a sparkle
Caelia: Lavendar with blue undertone and lotz a sparkle

*I did receive this samples for free for review purposes only.

So, what do you think? Any colors catch your eye so far?

Living Dead Fantasy! EOTD

Evening Zombies!

I don't know about you, but I sure am glad that this is the start of the weekend!  Today I wanted a fun bold look using some of my new Evil Shades goodies! I requested a  custom shade from Evil Shades for my giveaway called Living Dead (raspberry with blue and pink sparkle) and purchased one for myself.  I paired Living Dead, Phyrra's Fantasy, and Glooming together for this look..It turned out!  I love my custom shade. And if you enter my contest, you may just win all three eyeshadow featured!

All three shadows have blue/aqua sparkle in them, which made this a fun look. You can see some of the sparkle here. And even though Living Dead and Glooming are super pigmented, they blend so well. I am so impressed with the quality of Evil Shades.

The goods:

NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk
Evil Shades "Living Dead" main lid
Evil Shades "Phyrra's Fantasy" above Glooming and lower lash line
Evil Shades "Glooming" in crease

Happy weekend beauties!

Are YOU a Dark Faerie?

Good morning Zombies!

About a month ago, I ran a poll asking viewers and readers what "look" I should do next. The most votes went to Dark Faerie!  As I was thinking more and more about what that meant and what I should come up with, I decided this would also be a fun way to feature some of my favorite bloggers. Starting next week, I will run a Dark Faerie series for about a month or longer. Once a week, I will spotlight a blogger who's used the Dark Faerie theme. Can be makeup, nails, cooking, etc. As long as the theme is there. And guess what?! I've also decided to open this up to my fellow bloggers. If you want to be featured, please email me at Let me know how you'll be using the Dark Faerie theme. I'll give you more direction once you've emailed me!  :)

So stay tuned in the upcoming weeks for some awesome bloggers taking a walk on the darker side.

My 100 follower giveaway is almost a GO!  I didn't realize how much it took to organize it. :) The announcement will be coming up SOOOOON!

Have a beautiful Thursday bloggers. Hope to hear from some of you soon.

*!Flip Flop Tidal Wave!* LOTD (Featuring SudsnSass!)

I thought I'd use some of my SudsNSass samples today. They were pretty much screaming to be used. Ironically, I didn't use Tattoo Shop- which is by far my favorite SudsNSass shadow from the A Day at the Beach collection. I'm saving it for something VERY special!

Anyway, this is my green look of goodness. I was impressed with the shadow. Very smooth and blendable. I will be full size ordering very soon!

I really like the green with purple sheen of Flip Flops. It's so pretty and transferred well to the lids.

!*Suds N' Sass Review and SWATCHES*!

Hey Zombies!

I have Internets back..It was weird last night being disconnected for the online world, but it also kinda nice just to hang out and watch some TV.

A few weeks ago, I was contacted by Elizabeth with SudsnSass via Twitter and asked to review her new "A Day at the Beach" collection coming out this Monday (06.21.2010). I'd never really heard of her shop before and once I actually sat down and went through her shop, I was super excited. I saw a couple eyeshadow right off the bat that caught my eye so I was stoked to review and try her product. (BTW, I was in fact sent these samples for review purposes but that in no way alters my opinion of the product.) In reviewing the website, not only does SNS sell makeup products, but she sells soaps, bubble bars, bath bombs, and other bath yummies. Check the website for more!

Only 2 days after she shipped the samples I received them. I didn't have much time to swatch them, but Tattoo Shop immediately called my name and I swatched it. OHHELLZYEAH! I got the goosebumps swatching it. And you'll see why in a moment.

Elizabeth sent 15 eyeshadow samples, 3 Bronzers samples, 2 Blush samples, and 2 Highlight samples. (All were sent in sample baggies with awesome detailed labels.)

Colors are as follows:

Pic 1: Sunburn (burnt Terra cotta), Beach Babe (shimmery gold), Polka Dot Bikini (shimmery rose), Piercing Parlor (shimmery silver with sparkles), and Tattoo Shop (navy blue/purple with pink and blue sparkles)

Pic 2: Tidal Wave (blue green and silver sparkle) , Poolside (sky blue with gold sparkles), Surf's Up (soft teal with sparkles), Flip Flops, (moss colored green that color with blue and purple undertones)  and Seagrass (lime green with gold sparkles)

Pic 3: Sandcastle (light beige), Beach Sand (soft pink with shimmer), Board Walk (taupe with pink undertones), Banana Taffy (banana yellow with gold sparkles), and Summertime (burnt yellow with shimmer)

Cotton Candy and Raspberry Snow Cone
Pic 4

Suntan and Bronze Goddess
Pic 4

Golden Rays and Pink Horizons
Pic 4

All eyeshadow swatched over Pixie Epoxy with the exception of the blush, bronzer, and highlighters. Click images for maximum goodness!

This collection is on the lighter side of what I normally gravitate toward, but let me tell you, the colors are beautiful and very "summery." She did a great job capturing the summertime/suntan essence. The eyeshaow were easy to blend and had great pigmentation. I did notice that Raspberry Snow Cone blush was on the harder side to blend, but I'm thinking it was the brush I was using.

My favorites in this collection and ones I will buy full sizes of are: Flip Flops, Tattoo Shop, Boardwalk, and Surf's Up, and Piercing Parlor. I'd also love to give Raspberry Snow Cone Blush and  Suntan Bronzer a good look. I will be doing looks with these in the upcoming months.

I give SudsNSass 5 out of 5 Zombies. :)

A Day at the Beach collection at SudsnSass will be released this Monday (06/21/ 2010) and for my lovely Zombie followers, Elizabeth has graciously offered 15% off any $10.00 order! Just use code "makeupzombie". This offer expires 07/31/2010.

Hope you all enjoy...Have a stellar weekend!

Sex, Drugs, and Glam Rock! LOTD

Hello lovers!

Tonight I bring you probably the most bright ass look yet. I am part of a "Goodwill Group" at work. (Don't laugh!) And we had an event today. On event days we have to wear our "I'm brighter then YOU!" red shirts. So, I thought I'd just bust out the brightness and go all out.

Yesterday I received samples from Phyrra's Aromaleigh "Victoria's Revenge" giveaway that I won. So before I swatch them for the masses, I had to use one. The one that caught my eye the most was Mourning's Whimsy. I am SO not disappointed in this eyeshadow. See for yo'self!

The Goods:

UDPP all over lid
Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy all over lid
Aromaleigh "Mourning's Whimsy" main lid
High Voltage "Glam Rock" in crease and outer (lower) lash line extending outward
Evil Shades "Heartless Queen" upper lid
Fyrinnae "Hypercool" blended into "Glam Rock"
Fyrinnae "Parental Advisory" inner (lower) lash line
Hi-Fi  "Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll" to blend entire lid
Fyrinnae "Marshmallow Puffs" as highlight and blended into inner corner

Fyrinnae Glow Blush in "Captivate"

Rimmel "Just So" lipstick
Milani 3D Glitz lipgloss in "Fashion Diva"  over lipstick

I had tons of fun with this look! What do YOU think?

Have a great evening Zombies!

Deal of the Week: HOLY Milani Batman!

Afternoon Zombies..

I'm at home this afternoon after being told by my doctor that I may be suffering from migraines...MEH! I'm taking a mental health day. HA!  So, as I was waiting on my prescription from the pharmacy I spotted (I have makeup radar) out of the corner of my eye, the Milani display. And on it, was this little jewel screaming my name. I ran over and picked it up (myyyy precioussss) and saw that it was Milani's 3D Glitzy Gloss in Fashion Diva. The main reason it caught my eye was the gorgeous pink and purple sparkle. As I gazed upon it's loveliness and unscrewed it's top, the smell caught me off guard. So similar to MAC lipstick! *squeal* I was expecting a fruity "can't put my finger on it" smell like my other Milani gloss has. So, that was the #2 reason I couldn't pass it up. And the 3rd reason? Well, it has a brush instead of a doe foot applicator. AND it's freaking beautiful!  See for yourself, DUH!  At $6.99 I did feel a teeny bit guilty, but I got over it. This bad boy will last me forever.

Under natural Light on pale skin- results may vary.

I can't wait to get my hands on a  few more of these glosses. They aren't overly sticky or tacky and feel nice on my lips. And the smell is awesome! I give Milani's 3D Glitzy Gloss in Fashion Diva 4 out of 5 Zombies!

I found Fashion Diva at CVS, but you can also find it on the Milani website or Cherry Culture!

I hope you're all having a fantastic day. My Migraine Excedrine is kicking in, so I think I'll go take a time out on my bed!  I'm really excited about the impending giveaway. There are some amazing things to be won. *hint:Evil Shades:unhint*

On the Beauty Horizon at MZ!

Good evening Zombies...

First a very big HELLO and "thank you for following" to the newcomers. It makes me giddy inside to see new faces. And because I'm at 100 followers, I will soon be posting about my 100 follower giveaway. Trust me, you DON'T want to miss this!

July is going to so busy for me and so much fun. I think this is going to be a big month for Makeup Zombie. Aside from the giveaway, I'll be swatching new goodies from Evil Shades, Moi Minerals, and SudsnSass. I'm plotting a super spectacular Dark Faerie look that won the recent poll on the blog and I also promised a very good friend that I'd do a specific "New Mexico Sky" look and I've yet to follow through. (You know who you are. : P ) I'll also be trying out a newish company on Etsy called One Hand Washes The Other. I'm super excited about that, because there is one VERY special thing I NEED from her to giveaway to one lucky lucky person.

I've been thinking alot about my husband's lack of interest in my makeup obsession and I do understand where he's coming from. Most people hear "artist" and think painter, sketch artist, cartoonist, sculptor, etc. And it's hard to think that there are different types of artists. (You'd THINK he'd understand because he's a comic book artist.) But alas, he does not. But he's also not a female. I've about given up on trying to get him to see the light. This is my art, my hobby. And I don't feel guilty about it. We take good care of our kids, have stable jobs, and pay our bills. I'll buy eyeshadow if I eff'ing want! hehe  He loves me, he just doesn't get it. Kinda like I just don't get Star Wars.

Well, I'm off for the evening. Lots planned for the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned.

Totally Unrelated to Makeup..*5 Random MZ Facts*

Hello Zombies! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I thought I'd sit down and give you 5 totally random facts about me. Here goes!

THIS, is my Mom. SHE is my rock and my best friend.

A year ago August, my Mom lost my Dad to colon cancer.

It was a long hard 3.5 year battle, which is finally over for her and him.  My beautiful Mom has a new leash on life and is living it to the fullest. She is one of the most important and beautiful people in my life.

!Welcome to the Candy Shop!

Ok..Well, MY candy shop. My husband believes I have "just too much makeup." And he doesn't seem to understand the need for more. So, in honor of him, I thought I'd post my 2 drawers of "single/mineral" eyeshadow. See... I DON'T have enough! I have one more drawer to fill.. *rollseyes* Men, they just don't understand!

Ok, maybe I have a slight obsession/ addiction. But I adore my makeup. I can stand with these two drawers open and just stare. Seriously, I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to my makeup.

^^Wicked Lies^^ LOTD

Good evening Zombies,

Hope you all had a nice day! It was 108 degrees here in the desert, with lots of humidity, so I'm glad the day is turning into night. I almost melted!

This past weekend I received my order from Hi-Fi Cosmetics and one of the shades I'd ordered was a custom shade that I had Veronica work up for me. She named it Emptiness and Lies. Not quite sure if, and/or when it will be on the site. I think that still TBD. Anyway, I asked her for a rich Navy blue shade that color shifts to a vibrant purple with TONS of visible pink sparkles. Man, did she deliver! The sparkles are most noticeable over a purple base, such as NYX Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil in "Purple" and there is tons of dimension over a black base as well. I swatched the following photos over NYX Purple. I absolutely adore this shade and pictures just do NOT do it justice.

Going out on a Limb..taking a RISK!

Good morning Zombies.

Something has been bothering me, and I wanted to vent a little and share some of my opinions as well. This post is mainly to get some thoughts off my mind (after all this is MY blog) and get some opinions from others.

When I began my mineral makeup journey, I was na├»ve to everything minerals/pigments had to offer. I was also very unaware of the seriousness and controversy surrounding ingredients in mineral eyeshadow. I personally do not care what I put on my face, as long as it doesn’t cause me a reaction. I am 30 years old and I have been wearing makeup for well over 15 years now. Any damage I may do to my face is already done.  (And it still looks pretty damn good..haha!)

I’m becoming more familiar with mineral makeup/pigments and Indie makeup companies as I continue my makeup obsession and blog as well as following all of my very informative fellow bloggers. I’ve ‘met’ or been introduced to some very beautiful, honest, and creative Indie makeup owners. Women and men with a passion, a dream, something they care deeply about, and want to share with the world. I’ve also read some really nasty things about some of these people also. I have always kept my opinions to myself, or tried to stay extremely neutral. That was until I stumbled upon an online forum meant for “rants” about said companies. Because I will NOT waste my time joining this forum, I am going to voice my concerns about this here. (And may lose a few followers at the same time.)

It saddens and sickens me that companies are being attacked for creating a unique product. Some are even being accused of “copycatting” other companies. I DO recognize that some companies are repackaging straight mica and distributing as their own, and those companies, I will steer clear of. But companies with a well established customer base, a good product, a good name, are being sought out and attacked. Do you people really have so much time in the day to sit around and read the ingredients on every single mineral eyeshadow/product? Really? And will it really matter in 5 years? The really scary part about this, to me, is that these people are ruining the fun. Makeup is FUN! Don’t make it tedious for us who really enjoy playing with color.

I will continue to purchase from and review products that I find amazing or interesting and that I think others might like. There have been a few times I’ve come across repackaged products, but I do not announce it to my blog followers, I simply stop ordering from these companies. I will continue doing that regardless of the reputation of the company and/or what others may think. But at the same time, if said company carries a color I simply adore, I will continue to purchase it. At the end of the day, my makeup passion is for ME, and I like to share what I find with my blog followers. And if you disagree with me, I guess you don’t have to read my blog.

My favorite and most trusted Indie companies to date are:
  • High Voltage Cosmetics: Jasmine is so sweet and really works with her customers to create a unique product.
  • Evil Shades: Andrea is a kick ass chick how creates beautifully pigmented products.
  • Fyrinnae: Such unique and beautiful eyeshadow, I’ve never really owned anything like the colors I have from Fyrinnae. Totally worth the wait (if any).
  • Hi-Fi Cosmetics: Veronica is gorgeous and kind and willing to create something her customer will love. Her new Rockstar pigments are so sparkly and awesome.
  • Concrete Minerals: Emily has created a fun product with tons of unique colors.

Companies I hope to review in the near future (this list will continue to grow):

Meow Cosmetics

Morgana Minerals

Moi Minerals

Aromaleigh (I can’t wait to try Victoria’s Revenge!)

Now I’d love to hear your opinions on this matter. Please, if you’re an Indie company, share the worth as well. I love hearing both sides and I’m not bashing anyone, I’m simply getting some thoughts off my mind.

*High so Hi on Life*- Major Mail Weekend! SWATCHES!

Friday and Saturday the mailman was very good to me! :) I received my package from Hi-Fi Cosmetics on Friday- with a custom shade I asked Veronica to cook up. I'd also won an eyeshadow from her Facebook giveway (Raid the King) but totally forgot about it until I sat down and starting typing (after pictures were edited.) Anyway, I wanted to try her new Rockstar shadows, so I ordered Sex, Drugs, Rock and Roll and Mosh Pit, as well as my custom shade, which she named Emptiness and Lies. (Should be on the site soon.)
