PRESS SAMPLE

TGIF everyone!

Today, I have a review for you on the Black Onyx skin care line from Lionesse Gem. When asked to review these products, I was able to choose from 5 *precious gem* inspired skin care lines by Lionesse. I chose Black Onyx due to it's protective properties.

*I agreed to the review before seeing the actual price of each product as the *Gem* lines had not yet been released. After seeing the price of each product, I'm a bit on the fence about these.

What is Lionesse Gem?

Full set: $3000.00

The products came packaged in this fancy boxes.

Directions, ingredients and a little bit of information about each product is nicely printed on the back of the boxes.

I like that the bottles have a pump applicator.

I have been able to test out each product for the last few weeks to give a pretty good account as to how I feel about them and how well they perform. (For the price, I'd hope they are filled with magic.)

Pros:
  • Each product is lightly scented. There is absolutely NO overpowering scent or smell which I find to be a pleasant surprise for a face product.
  • Product feels light on the skin.
  • The Black Onyx Mask feels amazing once applied to the skin. It has a warming effect that soothes the skin and feels amazing. My face felt so soft the day after use!
  • The idea of different gem stone themed facial products is fun and I like the way they broke down each collection with different descriptive meanings.
  • Ingredients in each product are beneficial to the skin
  • Not one of the products made my skin feel oily or greasy after use
  • No animal testing
  • Paraban free .
  • Since using the Black Onyx mask just last night, paired with the Black Onyx serum, my skin already feels healthier and softer this morning. There is also a healthy glow to my cheeks.
Cons:
  • Hefty price tag. I personally would never spend $1,000 on a face mask or $600.00 on a face cream.
  • Packaging is big and bulky
  • The ingredients/directions are not printed directly on each jar
  • My skin freaked and broke out for a few days after using these products repeatedly and consistently for a week. I am hoping this was just due to using a new skin care product and  that these products were drawing the "bad" out of my skin.
It is going to take me a few months to make a concrete assessment on whether these products are worth $3,000.00 as a set. I will be doing a new post in the coming months with an update. I also update my Instagram frequently @makeupzombie so be sure to check me out there too!

Do you like the idea of gem themed skin care? Would you purchase any of these products?

More sparkles! ALL THE SPARKLES!

I also posted a swatch video on Instagram. Click HERE to see the colors in action.

Man, I adore this collection! The colors are so typically "Fall" and I love the names. What's neat about this collection in the amount of sparkle some of the shades give off. Each color is unique and very easy to apply and also very pigmented. I've tried several colors from SSM and I have to say, this is so far my favorite lot of colors.

"Dusty" has tons of blue sparkles that show up around the edges of the shadow. "Candle Lit" kind of glows from the inside out. "Apple Jack" is an awesome maroon shade with lots of sparkles and "Whiskey Tango" is an great rusted brown shade with TONS of sparkle. It's so pretty!

Of course, I have to touch on "Sushi" as well, because, LOOK AT IT. Usually eyeshadow pigment with a heavy matte black base tend to blend down into a dull mess. This eyeshadow has so much dimension and sparkle that even with blending, it held it's color and sparkle. I was amazed.

I'm pretty sure everyone needs something from the SSM Fall 2014 Collection!

Small sample size baggies are $1.25 for 1/8 tsp of product.
Large sample size baggies are $2.25 for 1/4 tsp of product.
Small jar with sifters containing 1/2 tsp of product is $6.00
Large jar with sifters containing 1 1/2 tsp of product is $14.00

What do you think of this collection? Do you see anything that catches your eye?

Fyrinnae Magic...I mean Exquisites!

Happy Hump Day my lovely readers!

As most of you know, Fyrinnae is by far my favorite indie cosmetics company and has been since I first started blogging. So when they post about new products, I jump on it like a kid getting candy! I was SUPER excited to hear about the new Arcane Magic "Exquisites" line and decided to purchase one of each, as well as a few other shades I've been lusting after.

"Exquisites are a new variation of our popular Arcane Magic eye shadows.

These new shadows have stronger color shifts without depending on an opaque base hue, making them stunning alone or over many other colors. The transparency makes them suitable for a wide variety of skintones without compromising color.
A sticky base is highly recommended.

They are packed in the same size jars as our other eyeshadows, and weigh a little less (about 2.3 grams) due to lighter weight ingredients. As with all our Arcane line, the initial color description is from about an arm's length away, then closer and near an indoor light source (sunlight can wash out the shades and effect). A full size jar, which is packed down and filled as much as possible, holds over 5x as much as the Mini jar contains.

Ingredients: Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Mica, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isododecane, Magnesium Stearate. May contain: Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxide, Manganese Violet, Tin Oxide, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Dimethicone, Zinc Stearate, Ferric Ferrocyanide."

I had a few issues placing my order via the website. I'd get to the payment page and get an error each time I tried to pay my invoice. :( Fyrinnae helped to cancel my order so that I could start all over, and once I'd added my selections to the cart and went to check out, I received the same error. I was distraught and had pretty much given up to wait to try a week or so. Much to my surprise, the order shipped that same week and I received it in 2 days. Per my invoice, Fyrinnae had shipped my order gratis due to the trouble with order. I was floored and SO excited. I love the customer service at Fyrinnae and the extra care they take to make things just right.

The Exquisites: (descriptions per Fyrinnae website)

Elegant Revelry:  Varying shades of green and turquoise sparkle on a transparent light reddish brown base hue away from direct light. Closer to light or at certain angles, it becomes light blue and ruddy pink. Very sparkly finish.

Breathtaking: Away from direct light, vibrant pink sparkle and shimmer appear to glow on sheer beige. Closer to light or at certain angles, it shifts to a bright golden peach shade. Very sparkly finish.

Dreamwoven Luxuries: Away from direct light, this appears a complex blend of red and blue hues. Closer to light or at certain angles, it changes to shades of green and gold. Shimmery finish, somewhat metallic when foiled or over a sticky base. This shade is the most opaque of the new five.

On Wings of Silk: Pink sparkles mingle with a transparent pale bronze away from direct light. Closer to light or at certain angles, it shifts to gleaming greenish gold with with hues of peach and lime. Very sparkly finish.

Princess for a Day: Turquoise-blue sparkle tops a sheer burgundy hue for a striking effect. Closer to light or at certain angles, it turns vivid pink. Very sparkly finish.

Core line:

Sakura: Varying hues of pale lavender shimmer make this shadow a great glowing highlight. Try applying over a black base (shadow, cream liner, etc) for a great effect.

Oh, My Stars: Brilliant lime green filled with violet and purple sparkle.

Witchy Woodland Creatures: Glimmering, multi-faceted cocoa taupe. Shades of copper and silver, with hints of pink, gold, and green shimmer on a neutral taupe-brown base make this shadow suitable for a wide range of skintones.

When I Grow Up (free sample): This shade is a "glowing" multi-hue lavender. It's not pastel, but a semi-sheer sparkle shade much like Electric Stardust and Otherworld.

SO much sparkle!

Let's just talk about "Princess for a Day" for a moment. It's so so beautiful and sparkly. It photographed differently each time I took a picture. The base is a rose color and it's topped with wonderful blue and pink sparkles that shine. It's amazing, I just can't even stand it. I did have to use a really sticky base for my swatches (Pixie Epoxy) to get the sparkle to adhere and minimize fallout.

Here I am wearing "Princess for a Day" over a black base!

My second favorite in this lot is "Breathtaking". It's a gorgeous rose/gold and it shifts to different colors depending on the angle. Again, very sparkly and pigmented!  "Elegant Revelry" is another uber sparkly shade, with lots of dimension and shine. I love it! Honestly, I really do love them all. They are all pigmented, shimmery, blend-able and the new Fyrinnae formula makes them almost a creamy consistency that is so easy to apply to the eyelid.

"Oh, My Stars" is also a really fun lime green shade with gold sparkles. I bought it mainly for it's name and because it's lime green. ;) "Witchy Woodland Creatures" is a fabulous neutral shade with a punch of sparkle. Beautiful.

I'm extremely happy with the Exquisites line and I can't wait to see what's on the horizon for Fyrinnae. If you'd like to read more about the Exqusities- check out THIS post.

A mini sized jar of these shadows are $2.75 (1/4 tsp) and a full sized jar (3 grams) is $8.00- the prices are based on (per the Fyrinnae blog):

"The determining factor on keeping these and building upon the collection will be how well they sell for the "second round". With every new release, there are rapid sales in the first few days. Sometimes more than others (Royalty, the new purple blush, sold astoundingly well in the first 2-3 weeks, much to our surprise). After the initial rush, if there is still demand and response is good, we shall keep going with them. The price will be higher due to the considerably higher cost of specialized colorants and the ratio in which they are used."

Please help support Fyrinnae to keep the Exquisites line alive!

Do you own any of the new Exquisite shades? What is your favorite Fyrinnae eyeshadow?

July "Lip Monthly" review!

Happy ass Friday my lovely undead readers!

I have SO much going on in my life right now that I can barely stop to take a breath above water. My blog has been terribly neglected and I hope to remedy this in the months to come. I have so many swatches and looks I want to do for you all! I'm loving reviewing products but I do want to do more looks and play with my makeup more often.

That being said, let's move right along.

I was given the opportunity to review a Lip Monthly subscription box to share with my readers.

"For only $10/month, Lip Monthly helps you discover brands with the best lip products on the market. Every month we’ll send you a unique box straight to your door and help you discover the best of Lip Glosses, Lip Sticks, Lip Balms, Lip Stains and much more."

Sadly, this isn't going to be much of a *glowing* review.

First off, I've done some research on this company and have seen in a few different videos/posts that the products were nicely packaged in a clear plastic sleeve and placed in a bubble mailer. Each box also came with a description card which outlines each product and it's cost. My products were thrown into the bubble mailer, there was no description card, and they products weren't even secured in the lip monthly box that comes in each package.

So, I was underwhelmed immediately.

This is the box that normally contains a few of the products and the description card. Mine was empty as everything had fallen into the bubble mailer.

Inside the mailer. I have no idea how much each product retails for, as I did not get an item breakdown. I did a little research online and couldn't find some of the items offered on their corresponding websites. I'll go into that more later.

Appeal Cosmetics: "Red Light District" lipstick
Stila Cosmetics lip glaze in "Orange"
City Color lip pencil in "Chic"
City Color lip balm in "Salmon"
John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Fixation 1.5 oz tube

When my package had arrived, the Stila "Orange" pencil had no protective sleeve or plastic wrap so the lid had come off and the product had melted, as you can tell from the tip of the pencil. "Chic" had also melted a bit into the lid but there was protective wrap around the tube.

Swatches!

As I did a little research after receiving my package, not only could I not find some of the products on their respective websites, but I stumbled upon THIS post which really sent up red flags. I'd hate for any of these products to be outdated or discontinued from certain companies and I have a feeling that is the case with the Stila lip glaze.

According to the Appeal Cosmetics website, "Red Light District" retails for $22.00 and is currently sold out.

I could not find the lip glaze pencil "Orange" on the Stila website and I'm assuming it's been discontinued. I can't tell what it would have retailed for.

I found "Salmon" on the Color City website retailing for $2.99. "Chic" also retails for $2.99 on the City Color website.

I also located the John Frieda Straight Fixation creme on various websites and it retails for roughly $4.00.

Taking into account the prices I was able to locate, the box is a good deal, but because of some of the other issues with it, I think it's wise to spend your money elsewhere. It seems the boxes are really hit and miss. Some people have received lovely packaged boxes with extras in them and some people have received really badly packaged boxes.  I believe this comes down to customer service- there should be someone double checking every package that leaves their facility. I guess it comes right down to your preferences and if you're OK with receiving discontinued or outdated lip items . Lip Monthly does not customize your box in any way, so you'll get what you get. ;)

There was nothing fancy or special about this box to me and some of these items can be easily picked up online or at a drug store. I'm really bummed I didn't receive the description card as I think that's a really fun touch in these monthly subscription boxes. I do love the concept of a monthly box with nothing but lip products, but the box I received falls short of amazing. :(

Are you subscribed to Lip Monthly? What are your thoughts?
