Carpe Noctem Minerals!

Good evening zombies!

I'm coming at you tonight with a new indie makeup company new on the scene called Carpe Noctem Minerals which can be found on Etsy. Carpe Noctem is run by Veronica who use to own a popular indie brand a few years back. She's returned with a new company and a new vibe.

Carpe Noctem means "Seize the Night" and this is the new mission statement for Carpe Noctem:

"We specialize in the glamorous and the daring! Our products are specifically designed with the nightlife in mind!! Here you will find versatile, bold color and sparkle galore! We have what you need for your inner diva to shine bright like a diamond and slay, slay, slayyy!!

We are currently adding inventory, so keep checking back! Our stock includes many Limited Edition items that will never be seen again, so if you find something you like, jump on it!! Because once it's gone, it could be gone forever.

But never fear... We also have many core items and shades that will be available at all times! :)

Feel free to message us with any questions!

We love and appreciate all of our customers so much! We hope you all continue to slay the day and SEIZE THE NIGHT!!!"

Veronica was sweet enough to reach out to me and ask if I'd try out her new products. She sent me 3 full sized eyeshadow (10 gram sifter jars with 1.5 tsp of product) and a "GLITZ", which is CNM's name for cosmetic grade glitter (15 gram shaker jar). (That's a TON of glitter!)

I received the following:

Morgana's Fate: A shimmery silver purple
Siren's Blood: A bold, wine red with ethereal blue sparkle
Leviathan: A sparkly green on a blackened base

Mermaid Life Glitz: blue, purple, pink, and green sparkles

Swatches! (All of my swatches are over Fyrinnae Cosmetics "Pixie Epoxy".

Natural Light

That glitter tho!

Blurred to show sparkles and dimension

Again, blurred to show the sparkles!

My thoughts!

Considering that I was a huge fan of Veronica's last company, I can say that these eyeshadow are on par, if not better than her last creations. I was a little nervous when I first received the products because the jars looked like standard private labeled eyeshadow. It wasn't until I opened and swatched them that I realized (immediately) that yes, Veronica hand blended all of the shades. There is so much sparkle, shimmer, pigment, dimension and personality in each one. You can tell she's put a lot of thought into these new eyeshadow and her new company. The three shades I received (plus the glitter) and gorgeous! I absolutely LOVE "Siren's Blood". Like, I love it with a fiery passion. The blue sparkle throughout is just amazing. "Mermaid's Life" is also such a stunning glitter and perfect for your inner mermaid! I can't wait to try it out. I'm so pleased with the new products and excited to see Veronica thriving again and making a come back.

Each eyeshadow and GLITZ is $10.00. She only offers full sized products at this point but you get a lot of product and wonderful quality! I feel like it's a great deal if you find something you really love from the shop. She also offers a lot of Limited Edition items that once they sell may be gone forever, so if you see something you adore, you should probably pounce on it!

Go check out Carpe Noctem and tell her MakeupZombie sent ya!

Anastasia Beverly Hills/Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit!

Hey zombies!

So, I purchased this glow kit the day it was released and as per usual, am just getting around to making a post about it. "IT" is the beautiful and highly coveted Glow Kit from Anastasia Beverly Hills in collaboration with Nicole Guerriero! This is my first ever glow kit and I'm 100% happy with my purchase. The kit retails for $40.00 and can be purchased on the ABH or Sephora websites. It can also be purchased in Sephora stores.

The kit comes in a sparkly pink palette which is encased in a sparkly pink sleeve. Each highlighter pan contains 4.5 grams of product and there are 6 highlights in the palette. Sadly, I forgot to take a photo of the back of the palette and sleeve. (I'm blogging rusty.) Nicole's glow kit is Vegan and Cruelty Free. The reason I *had to* have this palette was because the colors in this spoke to me over any other glow kit from ABH and from swatches looked to be colors that would work on my skin tone. It's even better than I could have imagined.

That holo tho!

Look at the beautifulness! LOOK!

Descriptions of palette and shades per the ABH website:
Limited edition Anastasia Beverly Hills Glow Kit featuring six metallic powder highlighters created in collaboration with YouTuber Nicole Guerriero. Layer multiple shades or apply separately on face and body for a luminous finish. Ideal for use with Brush A23. For added radiance, apply with a damp makeup brush or sponge.

Six shades for highlighting the eyes, face and body
Buildable metallic-luster formula
Can be applied wet or dry
Kitty Kat – Pink with a platinum reflect Forever Young – Pink pearl with a silver reflect
Daydream – Coral with a white gold reflect
Forever Lit – Platinum with a lavender reflect
Glo Getter – Champagne with a rose reflect
143 – Rose gold with a bronze reflect

I am seriously over the moon about this palette. While Glo Getter and 143 seem to dark for my face, if I use just the smallest amount, they give me a warm shimmery glow and can also be used for eyeshadow. Forever Lit has the slightest blue tint to it and is one of  my favorites from this palette. Kitty Kat and Forever Young steal the show for me because I'm a sucker for rosy golden shades and they look great on my pale skin. Daydream is the only shade in this palette that I'm having a hard time deciding how to wear and will probably end up used as an eyeshadow. It's still such a beautiful, glowy color. I feel like all of these highlighters can be used on any skin tone and that it just depends on how much you apply. They are VERY buildable and while they may seem pretty sparkly in the pans, the sparkle doesn't transfer as much as I thought it might onto the skin. This is a huge win for me as I'm not a fan of disco ball sparkle highlighters.

This palette is great for any collection and this is coming from someone who is very particular about what highlighters I buy because I don't really want to spend money on something that will be *too much*. It's a different story for eyeshadow and lipstick though. ;)

Do you own the Nicole Guerriero glow kit? Do you love it as much as I do? Or was it a miss for you?

Notoriously Morbid Haul!

Good evening zombies!

It's been quite a while since I purchased indie cosmetics, so I decided to show you all what I recently picked up from Notoriously Morbid. This post is full of awesome sauce, so check it out!

*As always, be sure to click images for maximum awesome!

I purchased the following: (descriptions are from the NM website, unless noted otherwise)

Lord of the Unseen (mini): deep blue purple with brilliant pink and copper sheen
Demeter's Despair (mini): rose brown with bright green, pink, copper and gold sparkles
Tainted Love (full sized color of the month): muted plum base with an antique taupe shimmer

*Tainted Love is also part of the new "super semi loose shadow pigment" formula which were formulated to give you an extremely creamy pigmented shadow with staying power! Arriving in a semi loose state, the shadow can be applied with your finger or a flat shader brush in a patting motion. The creaminess of the shadow assists with easy blending and is formulated to look spectacular over primer or over a sticky base.
Scottland the Brave (mini): metallic juniper green with color shifting sparkles that change from blue to violet depending on angle and lighting
Albatwitch (mini): deep peachy tan with a pink sheen and aqua and blue sparkles
Lizard Man (mini): brown base with a traveling shift of orange, pink, and golden green
Ozark Howler (sample): warm bronze brown with copper, pink, and purple sparkles
The Devil's Lake Monster (sample): deep warm red brown with pink, blue, and green sparkles

3 sample sized Mystic Matte lipstick in:

EL: A warm coral pink base with a blue shift
Sorceress: warm red with blue-purple shimmer
Bloody Kisses: blackened berry red

*Carrie was kind enough to send me the Slipknot Tribute Trio to try out! They are no longer on the website, so I'm going to describe them in my own words.
disasterpiece (full sized): blackened silver with multidimensional sparkles and green undertone
Snuff (full sized): blackened, metallic red with gold reflects
sic (full sized): blackened plum/ leaning burgundy with sparkles
*This trio seems to have the new formula as well.

Jars of awesome!

The labels of the jars are all different because each shade comes from a special themed collection within the NM website. I encourage you to go check out the different themes! There is something for everyone!

Look at these beautiful lipsticks!

Holy hell! I'm so in love with quite a few of these shades. "Scottland the Brave" is above all, my favorite. I'm a sucker for a good green and the sparkles within it are just beautiful. I'm also very impressed with "Tainted Love" because it's so vibrant and stunning and easy to blend out without losing it's color (which is hard to accomplish with purples). All of the colors in the Tribute Trio as are really nice as well. I'm really liking the new formula. The shadows are rich, buttery, pigmented and so easy to blend out. "Lizard Man" and "Albatwitch" are also two of my favorites from the lot.

Let's talk Mystic Mattes! NM's matte lipsticks are lovely and pigmented, but slightly drying. Just make sure that you use a balm before applying and you're good as gold. Sadly, "El" and "Sorceress" are *just* similar enough on my lips that I wish I'd gone for a different, more bold shade, but I'm very happy with the formula and the wear. I'd wear "EL" every.single.moment if I could.

(OH! Speaking of lipstick, I like to swatch lipstick over on Instagram @makeupzombie, so that's where you'll see these in action on my lips.)

I really like Notoriously Morbid's products and I'm happy to see the growth they've had in the last few years! Here is a breakdown of the cost of products.

Sample- (approx. 1/4 tsp of product in baggie): $1.25
Mini- (approx. 1/3 tsp of product in a 3g jar): $2.75
Full- (approx. 1/2 to 3/4 tsp of product in a 5g jar): $5.50
Deluxe- (approx. 1 to 1 1/4 tsp of product in a 10g jar): $7.50
Mystic Mattes:
Sample (3.5 ml): $4.50
Full size (7 ml): $12.00

A mini sized eyeshadow will last me forever because of my extensive indie collection and at $2.75 a pop, you can not beat that (the sample baggies are quite a generous amount as well). You can stock up on sparkly goodness without feeling guilty! ;) Go check out NM if you haven't already. And if you have, is there anything here that you love as much as I do?

NYX Duo-Chromatic Illuminating Powder!

Good morning zombies!

I hope you're all having a good week so far. Today is a fun post, as I was able to get my hands on 3 of the new Duo-Chromatic Illuminating Powders from NYX Cosmetics. They are all the buzz right now from Instagram to Youtube (because of their varying colors, giving us dreams of becoming mermaids!) and I wanted to see for myself if they were worth the hype. As soon as I heard they'd launched, I went to my local Ulta to see the sad, barren display case- they'd already sold out. I was SO close! So, I purchased them from the Ulta website. (When all else fails, right?) I purchased them at $7.99 each, but right now on Ulta, they are buy one get one 50% off.

This is the description of the powders from the NYX website:

"Light up your features with NYX Cosmetics' Duo Chromatic Illuminating Powder. Available in glowing shades, these silky powders blend like a dream for a fresh-faced look. Their breathtaking formula's light-catching pearls deliver a luminous finish that looks different from every angle. Brush this illuminating wonder along the highest points of the face - such as the cheekbones, bridge of the nose and Cupid's bow."
Let's take a look! As always, please click the images for maximum awesome!

Here is the front packaging. Pretty sleek if you ask me!  I purchased Lavender Steel, Crushed Bloom and Snow Rose.

Back- there is .21 oz (6 grams) of powder in each compact.

They really do look beautiful.

There are no real shade descriptions, so I'll use my own.
Lavender Steel: an iridescent lavender that pulls almost blurple on the skin. Your mermaid dreams will come true with this highlight!

Crushed Bloom: a gorgeous coral sheen with strong pink undertones. This would be great as a blush or over a cream highlight for more "OOMF!"

Snow Rose: a soft gold and pink sheen. This looks like a regular pearl highlight in the pan but once you swatch it on your skin, BAM, you're a freaking glowing unicorn.

I mean, look at the beautiful sheen that Lavender Steel and Snow Rose cast. They are so gorgeous on the face and a lot more subtle than you would imagine- while still being pretty pigmented. They are also very build-able in case you like the look of an intense highlight. I've heard that a few of the shades are being compared to the Kat Von D "Alchemist" palette and soon enough I will own it so that I can do a comparison myself. But, I think that if you're wanting just one of the colors in the Kat Von D palette instead of purchasing the whole thing, this is the way to go. There is also a blue under-toned highlight in this line called "Twilight Tint" that I have not purchased yet. I don't think I need it in my already massive collection.

Overall, I really like this line. It's fun and out of the box for NYX. I like to see them stepping up the game to keep up with the latest makeup trends. If there is one of these you absolutely must own, I'd say it's Snow Rose.

Have you purchased any of the new Duo-Chromatic powders yet? What are your thoughts?

Urban Decay "Alice Through the Looking Glass" palette!

Hi again Zombies!

Another post! I'm on damn roll. Get it girl!

For those who don't already know, the "Alice Through the Looking Glass" palette is on sale on the Urban Decay website RIGHT NOW for $34.00 (orignally $60.00) and so I snagged it so fast you have no idea!

*as always, please click the images for maximum awesome!

Urban Decay is also offering cyber deals all this week, so make sure you check back every day to see what they are offering. For example, today's deal was the original and anti-aging primer potions for only $8.00 each!

I received my palette earlier this week and decided to crack it open to show all of you wonderful people. To start, here are some photos of the gorgeous packaging! The 20 eyeshdaow are housed in a beautiful box with all kinds of thrills and magic. Once you lift the cardboard lid, you immediately see a nice sized mirror with "We're all mad here" engraved into it.

I felt my Wednesday Addams shirt went well with the theme. ;)

There's a two lovely flaps that can be opened and written on them is "I'm not strange, weird, off, nor crazy, my reality is just different from yours." This palette was seriously made just for me. ;)

Once the flaps are lifted, you're greeted with this gorgeous butterfly.

One last touch is the writing on the drawer where you pull the eyeshadow from. This saying is" I know who I was when I got up this morning, but I must have changed several times since then." *heart eyes*

This is what's hidden inside the drawer!

The packaging is gorgeous, yes, but let's take a look at what REALLY matters where.

Top row closeups

Bottom row closeups

You also receive a full sized dual ended eyeshadow brush with this palette rocking the same theme as the outside of the box.

SWATCHES! (I swatched over primer potion in "Eden".)

Can we please take a moment to oogle "Hatter", "Lily", "Heads Will Roll", "Duchess", "Dormouse" "Paradox", "Salazen Grum", "Metamorphosis", and "Cake"?! I mean really. These colors are absolutely, stunningly gorgeous! You can see for yourself that every color in this palette is unique and has a beauty all its own. "Lily" is one of my favorites because it's a lovely ivory with an intense pink shift to it. It is AMAZING as an inner corner/browbone highlight. "Hatter" and "Heads Will Roll" have my heart too because, green. DUH! "Metamorphosis" is another one of my favorites. It's such a beautiful periwinkle blue and the pigment is spot on. (Which is surprising because a lot of reviews I read or saw about this color were not favorable.) "Dormouse" and "Chessboard" are gorgeous transition shades or nice for the outer v or to deeper the crease. "Salazen Grum" is my hands down favorite color in this palette. It's a gorgeous shimmery pink/copper and it's so pigmented which paired with "Paradox" is one of the best combos I've ever experimented with! I also love "Cake" Overall, this palette is just stunning.

The only eyeshadow that is actually pretty terrible is "Dream On". It's nothing but glitter and very hard to apply, even over a primer. I will try this with some sort of glitter glue or glitter eye adhesive, but I dislike this shadow and really feel the palette could have done without it completely. The flash of the camera does tend to pick up a lot of the glitter and some of the base color, but in real life it looks nothing like that.

I feel like because the palette is on sale now, you should all go pick it up! I don't know that I would have spent the original $60.00 on it, but for $34.00, I couldn't pass it up.'s a look for you using this palette. It's been way too long since I've played with makeup and posting the look! We need to make up for lost time.

The Goods:

UDPP in "Eden" for primer
NYX jumbo pencil in "Milk" for sticky base
"Dormouse" from UD "ATTLG" all over lid for transition
"Salazen Grum" from UD "ATTLG" blended into outer v and into crease
"Duchess" UD "ATTLG" patted onto lid
"Lily" UD "ATTLG" patted over "Duchess" and used in inner corner and on brow bone also used on inner lower lash line
"Paradox and Duchess" UD "ATTLG" blended into outer bottom lash line
BH Cosmetics Liquid Eyeliner in "black" used on my upper lash line
L'Oreal Color Riche eyeliner in "black" in water line
random mascara

Blush- Milani "Tea Rose"
Highlight from Colourpop "Flexitarian" on cheeks, tip of nose and cupids bow

"November" Ultra Satin liquid lipstick from Colourpop

Do you see some shades in this palette and you'd love to play with? Do you like the theme?

I'm over the moon!

As always, thank you for reading! Until next time!
